So the Secret garden menu was literally in tatters. I mean, their traffic must be crazy with this NRW. I flipped through the flimsy pages and to my surprise, not 1 or 2 vegetarian options, but 5!!!! I was gobsmacked! (exaggerate much?). I literally had to think about what I was going to eat for more than 2 seconds! Geez. I opted for the penne with blues cheese. Easy. Blue cheese trumps everything! At this point I am joined by my 2 dates, one picking the steak and the other, fish. I was highly engrossed in conversation for the most part, that I couldn’t tell if the service was good or bad. Our server was very sweet though, we liked her. So the food arrives. My pasta looks like something I’d make on a Sunday (note: I don’t cook on Sundays). The presentation was bland and could’ve done with a little more creativity. I ignore this and dig in. I start to think to myself how different my taste buds are compared to people’s reviews on Facebook because; this pasta is just not working for me! Even though I am fully aware that blue cheese goes with literally everything!!! even rocks, I continue, doubting myself with every bite. Eventually I give up. I just can’t go on like this, or perhaps I wasn’t that hungry right? I mean my 2 dates absolutely enjoyed their meals, one stating that the steak was one of the best he’d ever had. So it must be me. I am willing to give the place a second chance (more like 5th. I’ve never had a good experience there). For our dessert we order the eskimo pie (I hear you counting those calories, shut up already!) and the apple pie. Both slightly underwhelming in taste but points on the presentation. Besides, I’ve never been a fan of meringue. I don’t find that version of sugar appealing. Never have.
So in conclusion, Secret Garden get a 6/10 from me but somehow my loud conscience says to go back again and give them another try. What say you?
Ps. Their secret virgin is to die for.
