But in the last couple of weeks I have done a few catering gigs. Ok 2. But 2 more than I have ever done and I must say it was quite the experience. I definitely have learnt a lot about what I want and don’t want to carry forward into future events. I know for sure that I am a stickler for detail so by the time anything gets left behind I’m kicking myself..well.. in the behind. At my first attempt, I managed to leave my house keys, locking me and all my equipment outside the house when I returned at 1am. I proceeded to get drunk. It’s truly the only solution to sleeping outside, in the rain (did it rain? who knows) which also didn’t happen because my neighbor was nice enough to lend me her spare bed. With catering, the worst part is cleaning up. It’s messy business but now that I know that I don’t like it, I have decided to get someone else to do the dirty work.
My first gig was also one where I was selling food. Very delicious burritos to be specific. Turns out they were more expensive than they should have been and I ended up having a 50% closing sale at midnight. Needless to say, those buggers were delicious!! I have also learnt that even though I quite enjoy sharing the labour with other people (co-catering so to speak), I don't quite enjoy sharing the decision making. I am definitely more authoritative and decisive when left to my own devices.
My second gig was preparing food for a party of 20 for a dear couple's engagement party. This one went very smoothly I must say. From these experiences, I am slowly beginning to figure out what to do with the food side of Kathy’s Kitchen. I quite enjoy small and intimate dinner/lunch/brunch/tea parties. So if you're up for all the good food and none of the hard work, you can now either email me or call me.
Enjoy the pictures of the 2 separate events!
